Is an IVA right for you? Ask us.

For many of our customers the best debt help turns out to be an IVA or Individual Voluntary Arrangement. If you or you partner is in full time employment, and have debts over £15,000, an IVA could be right for you. An IVA allows you to pay back what you owe in affordable monthly instalments, usually over a period of five years. IVA’s offer effective debt problem help because at the end of the term of the arrangement, any remaining debts are cleared and you need have no further contact with people you owe money to.

There are a number of other debt solutions if an IVA is not for you

For those with a less severe debt problem, help may be available in the form of a debt management plan or consolidation loan. If you have debts of less than £15,000 our best advice model may identify a debt management plan as being the best solution for you. This involves negotiating with people you owe money to to agree on lower monthly repayments. Unlike an IVA, a debt management plan is not a legally binding contract and therefore people you owe money to agree to stick to arrangements made on a mutual agreement basis only.

Consolidation loans can provide debt problem help for some people, but for those with debts of over £15,000 a loan can actually worsen matters due to the added financial burden, and thus an IVA is often more suitable.

Debt Free Direct is serious about providing impartial debt help to all those who feel they have a debt problem. We have even worked with a government body and are constantly lobbying for stricter regulation in the debt advice sector.
