Mrs H LockleyDebt: £44,000Solution: IVA |

Since 2000, my husband and I used credit for various reasons such as home improvements and general living costs. Over the years our debt continued to build up. Eventually we owed £44,000 and keeping up with the payments was getting harder and harder.
We decided to call Debt Free Direct who recommended an IVA based on our circumstances. Now we repay £314 a month, a lot less than we were previously paying.

We hadn’t expected problems when we were told we could buy our home after renting for six years. It was exciting to own a property and we loved renovating it. Then the costs started to build up and we realised we had been spending on credit cards too freely. We took out a joint loan of £10,000 to reduce my card balances. Soon after that my husband took out a £15,000 loan to reduce his own balances and I borrowed a further £10,900 to help control mounting costs.
We knew things were starting to go badly wrong and tried to negotiate lower payments. We even tried to raise equity from our home, but we were unsuccessful. A friend told us about Debt Free Direct. It’s been such a relief to get back to affordable repayments. Now we’re feeling secure again and we know that our home is safe.

Miss C HattonDebt: £25,000Solution: IVA |

It started out innocently enough when I used credit to fund my holiday and spending money but then my partner left his job. To help support him I agreed to use our savings and I obtained credit to pay our everyday bills. The following year I had to buy a car which I got on a hire purchase agreement for £4,500. I decided to better manage my finances by taking out a loan of £12,000 to clear the hire purchase and consolidate my existing debt.
Later that year my partner and I separated and I had to fork out for moving costs. I found it difficult to adapt to living on my own and I continued to use credit to pay off bills.
I realised I needed to readdress my situation. I tried numerous options including contacting my lenders and informing them of my situation. I was hoping they would agree to reduce my monthly payments, however not all would.
Finally a friend recommended Debt Free Direct and things are much better now. I have support and most importantly I can stop worrying about how to make ends meet.

Miss S ManfeldDebt: £40,000Solution: DMP |

I found myself in financial difficulty a few summers ago. Due to complicated personal circumstances and my reduced income, I was not able to maintain repayments on debts amounting to just over £40,000.
I saw an advertisement for Debt Free Direct and without much hope I called. I was listened to with kindness and respect. My details were taken and I quickly began a plan. From then on all my financial worries were taken off my shoulders.
An amount that I was able to afford was identified; this left me enough funds to pay all my other bills and to live on. The team negotiated with all my creditors agreeing repayment figures within this affordable sum.
My only responsibility was to keep up my one affordable monthly payment. If I had any questions I only had to phone and I would receive reassurance and advice immediately.
My financial circumstances have since changed for the better and the team were able to renegotiate a full and final settlement. In doing this they managed to save me £10,000!
The service goes one step further – although my plan has ended if anything does worry me I can always phone and receive the usual care and respect.

It had taken a while to build up my debts, and I’d tried to resolve things already. I had one card with £10,000 left to repay. To help sort myself out, I also found a new 0% interest credit card.
A couple of years later, I took out a loan of £7,000 to completely clear the balance on one card but I was gradually reducing my debts. Then I was made redundant. It hit me hard, emotionally and financially. Even after I found new work, the juggling act started all over again. I transferred my balances, but I still had to pay for my living expenses on the card and it was impossible to manage.
When I finally rang Debt Free Direct, the relief was enormous. What impressed me was their independence, and all the options they gave me cost less than I was paying. Now I’m back in control.
