High-street sales fell in January, as shoppers rein in spending across the board - in behaviour that lends evidence to the fact many Brits could use help with debt.

According to the latest monthly CBI (Confederation of British Industry) Survey covering the first two weeks in January - 44 per cent of retailers saw sales volumes fall compared to a year ago.

 

Chief Economic Adviser for the CBI, Ian McCafferty says: "Family budgets are under continuing pressure with inflation still high and wage increases modest."
