Doubts that pension will cover retirement (9 Mar 2010)

More people could find themselves in debt when they retire.

A survey by the National Association of Pension Funds (NAPF) found only a third of workers in the UK think their pension will be enough to survive on in later life.

It could see a rise in older people taking out loans.

Just 34 percent of people questioned were confident their pension would see them have a comfortable retirement.

27 percent said they would feel more confident about saving in a pension if they knew they would not lose any of the money they put into it.

But nearly half of those who took part still think pensions are the best way to save for retirement.
